About Maylands Peninsula Inc
Soroptimist International Maylands Peninsula acknowledges that they meet on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people, and pay their respect to elders past and present. We also acknowledge the contributions of Aboriginal Australians and non-Aboriginal Australians to the education and empowerment of women and girls in this country we all live in and share together.
SI Maylands Peninsula is proud to be the first Australian Soroptimist club to have had a Reconciliation Action Plan endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.

Projects
Our current projects include:
Kate Mullin Association
Kate Mullin was a passionate and visionary ESL Literacy consultant who made significant and far-reaching contributions to Indigenous literacy in Western Australia. Tragically, Kate died in a car accident in 2008. The Kate Mullin Association was set up in 2011 by her many friends and colleagues to continue Kate’s work on improving literacy outcomes for Indigenous students. The Association is established as a charity whose purpose is to improve the literacy levels of Aboriginal children by:
• Developing and sharing best practices in teaching literacy to Aboriginal students by fostering a community of practice
• Encouraging quality teaching through an annual Teacher Award
• Encouraging more literacy teachers in Aboriginal communities through funding a Scholarship for the training of such teachers
• Advocating for the literacy education of Aboriginal children with Principals of schools with a significant number of Aboriginal students
• Initiating other activities to enhance the literacy outcomes of Aboriginal students.
We are supporting the Association by financially contributing to the Scholarship Fund and raising awareness of Aboriginal literacy in the community.
FISH (Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health)
FISH’s purpose is to improve the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and break intergenerational cycles of trauma, poverty, and engagement in the justice system. Access to educational resources is the strongest indicator of later-life success. Books foster cultural pride, reignite spirit, and equip people to thrive in the modern world. FISH aims to ensure that all children across Australia have equal access to books and educational language resources. Via their Books for All Project, FISH has been actively supporting remote communities, teachers, schools, community groups, and carers to access culturally appropriate resources for many years for their First Nations students and youth. To date, we have donated 100+ books to FISH.

The Smith Family
The Smith Family believes that education is one of the world’s most powerful change agents. They focus on helping young Australians to overcome educational inequality caused by poverty. Our club is sponsoring a Western Australian primary school student to ensure she receives essential school supplies, ongoing mentoring, guidance, and career support, and access to learning programs. This is a long-term commitment.

SOS (Starting Over Support): A practical support agency of People Who Care
Starting Over Support (SOS) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides free furniture and household goods to people who are moving from crisis care into their own homes. People are referred to SOS by crisis refuges, government, and non-government agencies. SOS is run predominantly by volunteers, and funding is via donations, sponsorship, and grants. Our members help by sorting goods that arrive at the SOS warehouse, providing assistance on the donations line, and providing items that are in high demand to SOS clients.
CARAD (Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees)
CARAD is a provider of essential services for asylum seekers, refugees, and detainees. We support CARAD through donations of food and personal items as required.
