The Orange Story

Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific.  Soroptimists from Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Pacific have for many decades actively participated in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence this is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day NGO's and all to bring about an END to domestic and gender based violence in all its forms. 

Soroptimist clubs from across the SISEAP countries take action in their own communities, these advocacy and activities raise awareness of and the impact  domestic violence has on women and their families..  These activities vary from club to club and country to country.  

Club broaden the message that Soroptimists END violence against women, this is done with various 'orange' themed actions, such as walks, display, lighting, silent vigils and discussion panels.   

The 25th of each month is proclaimed as "Orange Day" which is to raise awareness and take action against violence against women and girls.  This ensures that the awareness campagins continue throught the year, as violence does not take a holiday. 

2025 Theme will be:

End Online Violence Against All Women and Girls 

Ending Online Violence will promote different key strategies, building a movement for safety online. providing effective solutions and actionable steps you can take to end violence against women and girls. Everyone has a role to play in ending digital violence

This powerful Human Rights webinar presented by SISEAP. brought together President Joanne Yeoh, Programme Convenor Dr Donnell Davis as they meet with panellists: Lorraine Finlay, (HR Commissioner Australia), Sunjid Dugar (Chief Commissioner Mongolia), and Srividhya Ganapathy (Co-Founder of Child Right Innovation and Betterment (CRIB Foundation). Sylvia Heywood presented a statement addressing our 3 questions from New Zealand Human Rights Commission. Discussions centred around regional challenges, policy advocacy and positive human rights changes. Each speaker recommended specific action from Soroptimist clubs and Federation. 

This informative webinar was hosted by SI Australia in conjunction with the ACT coercive control working group consisting of Soroptimist International Canberra, Zonta Canberra, National Council of Women Canberra, Rotary Canberra and CSW Canberra.

This webinar presented by Soroptimist International (Global) , on Human Rights Day (10 December,2025) “Break the Silence, End the Violence”, which examined online violence against women and girls. The discussion looked at how online abuse is affecting women and girls, how this violence is changing, and how harmful gender stereotypes continue to shape behaviour in digital spaces. Speakers explored different perspectives on online violence and discussed current efforts to challenge patriarchal norms that allow this abuse to persist. Speakers: Tania Gómez Herazo, Linda Witong, Berthe De Vos-Neven, and Lola Abrahamian The webinar aligns with Soroptimist International’s pillars, to address and prevent violence against women and girls, including both online and offline.

The theme for 2024 was UNiTE to end Gender Based Violence.  Club throughout the Federation took steps to advocate, awareness and action to end violence.
